A Collection of Original Renoir Sculptures Moves to Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A collection of original sculpture works by French Impressionist Master Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1849- 1919) is on display in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The House of Renoir, an Arizona company that recently acquired the collection, has commissioned the publication of a limited bronze edition to be reproduced from these originals. Descendants of Pierre-Auguste Renoir verified the authenticity of the original works.

The collection of more than 20 pieces includes poignant works such as "Buste de Coco," inspired by Renoir's son Claude; and "La Maternite," created in tribute to Renoir's wife, Aline.  "La Grande Venus Victrix"  [The Great Victorious Venus ed.] is a larger- than-life nude of the Greek goddess that fully captures the full, smooth and substantial female figure so familiar in Renoir's later paintings; it is considered to be the pinnacle of Renoir sculptural works.

Many art enthusiasts are familiar with Renoir's famous Impressionist paintings but few know that he was also a sculptor.  The original plaster and terra cotta works were completed by an aging and ill Renoir and his helpers, Richard Guino, Louis Morel and Claude Renoir, between 1914 and 1919 at his estates in Cagnes-Sur Mer in the south of France and Essoyes, in the Champagne region.  An earlier work, Buste de Coco was completed by Renoir's hands alone in 1908.
